The Doctors Net UK discussion forums occasionally reveal little pearls of information. Today is such a day.
Several users who attended Dundee Medical School in the early 1990s have revealed that they have been contacted through Friends Reunited by a Telegraph Journalist fishing for information about Kate McCann, who you will undoubtedly have heard of in the past 4 months.
"I am a journalist at The Sunday Telegraph. I am looking for some information on Kate Healy (Now Kate McCann). I believe she was at Dundee University at the same time as you. She studied Medicine and graduated in 1992.
Were you close at school? Maybe you are still in contact with Kate? Perhaps you were in halls of residence together or flat mates? Or do you have any pictures or information about your time together at University.

Interestingly, the journalist in question had created an account with Friends Reunited yesterday in order to contact people about Kate McCann. This profile has since disappeared, but originally Ben Erhman used it to claim that he attented Dundee University at the the time, and curiously that he also went to The Belvedere School as well. It just so happens that Kate McCann went to this school, and it also happens to be a girls only school. Funny that.
I don't know about you, but this makes me fucking angry. Journalists often wonder why the public repeatedly holds them in such low esteem, and regards them as less trust worthy than even politicians. For a vignette that succinctly illustrates why this is the case, you need look no further than Ben Erhman's exploits.
If pressed on this, the nasy little shit bag will probably trot out some tired old 'public interest' cliche, but no one will be in any doubt about the real motive here - self interest.
It has been noticed in more than a few quaters that the Daily Telegraph is inexorably turning into another Daily Mail (but one that's harder to read on the train), so we shouldn't be too suprised that they employ an amoral fuckwit like our Ben.

Well using friends reunited is a bit cheeky. But from the text you quote he is not decieving anyone, first line says i am a reporter. Its a bit intrusive using friends reunite to contact people but to be honest your article is more intrusive. Providing his personal details and encouraging people to abuse them is fairly vendictive. I thought it was a slightly ugly personal attack. After all the guy is only asking for information on her, what people choose to say to the press is their own chioce and responsibility.

He's doing his job. Kate McCann should have no concerns about him finding things out about her, unless she has something to hide? She and her husband have been encouraging media attention all along, do it would be hypocritical of them to get upset because a journalist wants to find out more about them. He hasn't done anything illegal, after all.
All the McCann's want is to find their daughter and they probably thought the publicity might help them.
They are innocent until proven guilty so speculation doesn't help anyone.
I think this reporter is despicable and hope everyone tells him to f... off!
