Urgent! I need to see a GP that knows me at 7pm tonight!

Although GP patients surveys show 85-97% satisfaction with opening hours, apparently -from reading the comments sections on Dr Rant - some people are angry because they can't see their own personal GP that knows them at any time of day or night.

Perhaps I'm misreading things, but this looks like a variation on the old 'I can't see my GP for two weeks' chestnut from patients who have been offered a same day appointment with another GP for the same day, but the patient has insisted on waiting for their GP to come back from two weeks holiday.

Let's just look at how ridiculous a 'complaint' this is. (And it really is a very, very, fucking ridiculous complaint!).

1. To achieve this, every GP in the practice would need to be available 24 hours a day.

2. No GP would never be able to take a holiday. Or even go for a shit, in case the patients popped in and had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen.

3. No GP would be unable to attend any training courses (unless they were done in-house at the surgery while they waited to see if Janet Fuckwit or one of her selfish pals was going to phone for an urgent appointment).

4. No GP would never be able to get pregnant.

5. All GPs would need to work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Let's just re-introduce household slavery and be done with it. Every house in the UK should get their own personal live-in GP - available 24 hours a day, no condition too trivial.

Of course, with average house occupancy at 0.8 just now, we'd need to train 70 million GPs to meet demand and expectation. Perhaps some households would be willing to share?

The Dr. Rant team rocks on! Your post has described exactly what THEY want. As ridiculous as it is...

They want a GP to work 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Then they want you to do if for less pay than they themselves get working 37 hours a week in a job NOT making life and death decisions. This way their taxes stay lower and they get a better service. That is really what they want.

Newsflash: Doctors work harder than you do. They take on more shit than you or I can imagine. If you had the kind of responsibility that they had in your job you would probably have a fucking heart attack the first day. They are also tax payers and they probably pay more taxes than most of you do, and they are not your slaves. Got it?

Oooh, does this mean you can get me a house elf? Please? Go on, you know you really want to...after all, you can work all those hours and everything, that be sorcery that. No? Right, well lets drown you all in the local ponds then. Problem solved. After all, homeopathy can cure cancer? Can't it?

I shrewdly fond a way to implement this advice by marrying one.

Unfortunately she now says the GMC have told her it is unwise and borderline unethical to treat the family.

Bloody doctors.

A bit difficult when people keep posting as anonymous.

re "Although GP patients surveys show 85-97% satisfaction with opening hours" very biased surveys, which for instance take no account of the increased incidence of unemployed folk having time to fill in the form versus busy working folk

re "apparently -from reading the comments sections on Dr Rant - some people are angry because they can't see their own personal GP that knows them at any time of day or night." i have not spotted this trend, rather many frustrated that there is poor prevision for out of hours care, such as good doc run minors clinics which are common elsewhere in the world, positive suggestions such as "why dont we have propoer minors clinics like elsewhere in the world" are ignored and the dr rant team choose to take all comments as an insult, there are i am sure organisational, procedural, and admin changes which could improve the lot of the hard working patients who need a firm commitment to a time for an appointment not just a vauge indication of time, who need early/late/weekend appointments, not a personal GP just any doc at fucking all thankyou

really you mix up many positive areas of feedback which could be debated and discussed, and choose to spin against issues of detail with broad brush bollocks, you are just as bad as the fucking politicians in this regard

you mean someone on £100k a year might be expected to work after 5pm sometimes? that's outrageous!

Anon your an idiot.

By the way the survey was broken down into age groups. Do yo uknow how the form was distributed? Was it mailed to home addresses or done in the surgery? Tit.

Anon why don't you piss off and become a politician? At least then all your hot air would be used to keep other loosers warm.
