UPDATE: Horsing around with your blood results

A horse is a horse, of course, of course.........

Dr Rant is delighted to bring an update on our story about the proposed outsourcing of GP blood testing in Cambridgeshire to a company that normally does blood tests for the area's horse racing industry. Here's a little note from our source:

"The article on Addenbrooke's and HFL's plans to set up a lab for GP samples was well received (outside Addenbrooke's) - The "Addenbrooke's twateratti" phrase was particularly enjoyed and has entered the local vocabulary. I have heard from several sources that the plan is now dead. Thank Dr. Rant for his invaluable assistance."

We are very happy to have helped, and are very happy to hear from anyone who thinks that something deserves a wider audience.......

Nice one, this was dead in the water before your first post, you did highlight it though.........questions had been asked by Unison members in the know which caused it to be scrapped, the next masterplan is to move the GP bloods away from the local district general in Cambs.......come on G.P's we need to fight this and fight it now.....

id like to see them stop breast cancer treatment, oh no they cannot do that too much politically correct support

the system stinks

as for scotland gettin better treatment paid for by the south east of england i think we need a little political war of sorts to resolve that

Interesting bit of statistics....

A 50 year old female is more likely to die from complications related to an osteoporotic/fragility fracture than from breast Ca.

Now what do we screen for?

Cervical Ca - 2,700 new cases/yr, 1,000 deaths/yr

Breast Ca - 44,000 new cases/yr, 12,000 deaths/yr

Osteoporosis - est 3,000,000 established cases, 60,000 hip fratures/yr of which 30,000 will have died within 2 years.

no one: GET OVER IT!

Scotland receives a set amount from the UK government each year based on the (outdated) Barnett formula.

What Scotland chooses to spend it on is up to Scotland! Yes, NHS Scotland is better funded per capita - but what this means is money ISN'T BEEN SPENT ELSEWHERE.

Your south-east argument is totally wrong... so your south-east taxes should stay in the south-east? Okay, that's fine. Then oil and renewables income from Scottish waters should stay in Scotland. Fair enough?

Since you seem to hate the NHS down there in the home counties, why not come up an live in the beautiful Highlands? Safe, excellent transport links to the south, cheaper houses, less than 900 patients per GP... Your seriously ill diabetic partner would be much better served too! I'm sure someone of your alleged business skills would be welcomed with open arms... Or are you just a disgruntled pensioner abusing the free library interweb?

Good news indeed...now what harebrained scheme have they got planned next? Are vets any good at hip replacements? maybe they could form a strategic partnership with Living Well and close the physio department. I hear City Link are interested in branching-out into patient transfer services...
