There Will Be Blood (and Cider)
The current mood amongst Britain's doctors is grim to say the least. Gordon Brown has completely failed to grasp his old mucker Tony's magic trick of picking a stooge like Patsy Fuckwitt to attract the anger and bile from his incompetent meddling in the health service. Gordon has taken it upon himself to pick a fight with GPs, and he alone will bear the consequences.
Dr Rant would like to draw your attention to a GP practice website. The Wells City Practice in Somerset are not exactly a hornets nest of anarchic agitators with a track record of political tomfoolery, and as such are typical of Britain's GP practices. They are most certainly not like certain GP practices in Rantingshire that one could mention.
Why are they so cross you ask? Have a look at their January Newsletter to find out. Rest assured that there are hundreds of GP practices out there that are just as angry. The coming year will see a coordinated response to Gordon's ridiculous pseudo-macho Peacock Posturing.
He's taking the 'P', and we're going to make him look like the 'Cock' he his!

Please can we have a source for the "84%" figure?
Here you go.......

From the Government's Horse's own mouth no less.
they quote the same old crap stats that ignore the fact that the survey is biased towards folk who dont work, cos they are more likely to be home to fill it in, etc
so all in all its a load of bollocks

It was a POSTAL survey! You can fill it in when you get home from work!!
The truth hurts doesn't it!!
no you carnt when youre working on a consultancy assignment for mnoths in glasgow living in a hotel, and the survey is on your doormat in london
no you carnt when you get up at 7 and back at midnight 7 days a week for months on end on a busy project
you fuckers have no idea about real working life these days
Actually, it is a crap stat.
The question posed was (basically): Would you like your GP surgery to open at evenings at weekends? No cost. No reduction in daytime hours. Just evenings and/or weekends for nothing. Gratis. A freeby from your Beloved Leader.
Yet, amazingly, 84% of people still said no.
I mean, if you were asked if you wanted something totally free, no strings attached, would you say 'no'.
The real culprit here is the CBI (Cunting Bastards Institute). They are the ones that won't give staff time off to see the GP. They are the ones that want to shift business costs of illness onto the NHS, and Gordo is the one planning to do this by taking money AWAY from clinical care.
Fucking fundamentalist capitalist freaks.
theres no fucking diabetic clinics provided by the GPs or PCTs in the big cities now so why the fuck are rural practises in somerset still doing it? i think youll find they are being cross subsidised by city living tax payers
most of the workers in wells live in bristol anyway
re "The question posed was (basically): " no it didnt cos weve still got some of the forms cos we were too busy working when they fucking arrived last year, i can tell you exactly what it asked for the hard of honesty
"you fuckers have no idea about real working life these days"
Boo Hoo.
Is liddle widdle No-One sad because he has a crappy wappy job?
There, there...
Yes, let's dismantle chronic care for all the elderly and infirm people in the country so the sad troll No-Life can get to see his GP between Midnight and 7am on his one day off per year at home.
Of course, I can say with 100% certainty that no-one is lying. No employer would be daft enough to give someone with such clear mental illness a job, let alone a job that involves living in hotels for months on end.
I would suggest seeing a Glasgow GP as a temporary resident, but clearly they would see you coming and tell you to 'go fuck yersel ya wee shite!'
"i can tell you exactly what it asked"
I'm waiting......
(I love the way you have time to post on blogs 24 hours a day and file away un-sent questionnaires, but don't have time to lick a fucking stamp!)
Mmn. Got the 'headline results' but cannot access full pdfs as need something called a 'supervisor authorisation'. What's that about?
At the very least people should be able to access the full project details- who were canvassed etc. in order to suitably appraise the claims being made in this. Rigorous appraisal being part of the scientific approach and what not...
"such clear mental illness"
thats ur professional judement is it?
interestingly i had to talk a medic out of suicide once, wonder if he is one of u lot, i maybe a bit excentric but im not mentally ill
none of these lifestyle examples are necesarrily about me, but they are very real, and large numbers of people live like that, its a shame u lot dont want to provide service for the way real people lead real lifes
and i dont post on blogs 24 hours a day, far from it half an hour here and there, while doing other stuff at the same time, many days nowhere near a blog, normally when u lot have ur wank fest on here at the weekend when none of u work
You work away from home for months at a time living in a hotel room, so i would have thought you would go home rather than blog at the weekends..oh wait none of these examples are of your life...only of "real people".
So your lying and assuming how "real people" live (as your not one you have to assume).
Marvellous. I was raised in Wells. My dad was a GP there, for a while. It's quite a small place - somebody out there might even be able to work out who I am...
most of the workers in wells live in bristol anyway
No one - that is simply a laughable thing to say. I must have missed both the hordes of Bristolian commuters and the huge industries they toil in (do you mean the National Trust shop?).
(Actually, this post has gotten me all melancholic... I seriously miss my native Mendip Hills.)
So anonymous works 7-2400 7 days a week.
Presumably he wants to see his GP at 0200 on sunday night.
No wonder he isn't happy, If I worked though hours I would be putting the time to something more useful like going down the pub...
What an arsehole
noone
"they quote the same old crap stats that ignore the fact that the survey is biased towards folk who dont work, cos they are more likely to be home to fill it in, etc"
umm, biased towards the sick and elderly you mean? idiot
The DH's own survey, with biased leading questions, using up £11 million of taxpayer's money, failed to show a demand for longer opening hours.
It didn't give the result government wanted...so they have ignored it.
Anonymous- I don't know what kind of GP service would suit you. If you are in a high powered consultancy job, and away from home as much as you say then company BUPA and the local private hospital would be the usual solution.
You seem to have a problem getting to GPs- what's the background- and what would help you? GPs aren't as rare or as difficult to get to see as you imply.
And there comes a stage where health care has to find a slot in your diary alongside all the other business you deal with.
Re "No one - that is simply a laughable thing to say. I must have missed both the hordes of Bristolian commuters and the huge industries they toil in (do you mean the National Trust shop?)." oh dear oh dear. Biggest employers outside the public sector in Wells would be at a fairly good guess BP and Thales, apart from obvious farm sector supply businesses, BP and Thales trying to do their best to hang on in a high tech arena despite being in the middle of nowhere and struggle to get any senior staff with the right background, I KNOW FOR A FACT that very high %s of their staff commute from Bristol and Burnham, some stay in Glastonbury for the hippy atmosphere, but very much fewer live in Wells. So stick your crap up your bum, my comments are as usual based on substance and first hand knowledge.
Interestingly we have just had another GP survey form, and as an example of how badly it is designed we have
"I was dissatisfied because
Please tick ONE box closest to your views
The surgery was not open early enough in the morning
The surgery was not open around lunchtime
The surgery was not open late enough in the evening
The surgery was not open on a Saturday
The surgery was not open on a Sunday
Of some other reason"
Err most people I know would want to tick every single one of those! So doesn't really give any scope for really picking up public feedback, even given the bias towards non workers in the respondents
Dr blue, you seem like a relatively nice guy compared to some of the more communist drivel from the other dr rants, my genuine suggestion for figuring how to improve GP access would be to follow some patients around and monitor what happens when ordinary patients i) try to make an appointment ii) attend the surgery iii) need help from a doctor, I know you are probably at the better end of the GP spectrum and don't appreciate how crap it can be for ordinary patients with other docs, but really some basic research composed of monitoring what happens when patients interact with the nhs would do us all some good. Follow my partner around as she interacts with the nhs for one thing and see the crap she has to put up with, and I can guarantee you would travel back furious and blog away with a whole new perspective.
As ever none of you have a clue who I am or what I do, which is just as it should be, but really your view of the world of work really do need to be widened to take a whole look at the wide variety of none 9-5 work patterns. And some thought process into how a modern health industry should support these patterns, to help make the whole country more successful.
Your not an ordinary patient.
I have been and i don't see the problems you do.
You can't please people like you, if we caved in you (and those like you) would consume the health budget for yourselves.
ah but i am an ordinary patient

"My comments are as usual based on substance and first hand knowledge...I KNOW FOR A FACT that very high %s of their staff commute from Bristol and Burnham"
Don't lecture me about Wells, you arrogant internet clown - as ever, your tone speaks volumes. Coming from an old Mendip family, I know the area a darn sight better than you ever will. Cut me and I bleed dissolved limestone. I went to school with a large number of kids whose parents worked for Thorn EMI (as was) etc. Shock fecking horror - they did not live in Bristol. And by no stretch did they form the majority of workers in the city.
And FYI, my dad used to practise what was once known as "family medicine" (i.e. in inclement weather, borrowing the farmer's landrover to do his rounds). But then I doubt you would grasp the value of such things.
You are always ready to criticise others - so please, don't be shy about telling us who you are and what you do. Or are you just an egocentric little troll?
oh dear did i burst your "i know more about wells than you do" bubble? sounds like ur info is out of date
Dr Blue, just decent healthcare with no hassle thats all
I know you lot have actualy come round to my way of thinking about lots of stuff
And for what its worth I think the worried middle class well are a big problem too, but i would let it self regulate with good old fashioned money changing hands, i wouldnt allow access to get as bad as it is now using that as an excuse
theres a bigger problem with large sections of the population who never go to the docs even when very ill, having a stroppy receptionist who takes ages to answer the phone does them no god
and yep I think 24/7 minors clinics where you pay to be seen by a doc are part of the solution
and I do want good diabetic clinics everywhere not just lucky old Wells
"sounds like ur info is out of date"
Not really - the clue was in "Thorn EMI (as was)", which should tell you something about my age. And as big an employer as Thales are, Wells is not quite the commuterville centre of defence industry that you imply it to be.
lost_nurse I find your response hilarious, I know chapter and verse on this subject, I know Im right, I dont really need to justify the truth, the fact its the truth is enough for me
"most of the workers in wells live in bristol anyway"
No one - this statement simply isn't true. And I'm from Wells, you loon.
