You know, I've had a soft spot for Darzi since he came to the conlusion that the local hospital should be saved in his report (a new report was promptly comissioned that gave the right answer but at least he tried, right?) but he really does seem to have descended into cuntdom with this.

What can you expect from a surgeon - they all have fuck all clue about what goes on in medicine unless it affects them personally like no one to pass them a clamp.

It is a mistake to think that hospital specialists are going to immune to these gross (political) machinations.
The only reason we are not more inundated by people wanting their a second^H^H^H^H^H^H sixteenth opinion regarding their low back pain is that GPs act as gatekeepers to a resource-limited, national service.
There are two systems that are mutually exclusive:
1. Patient choice (even when there being no medical need).
2. Nationalised health care free at point of access.
The end of the NHS is nigh. Can't believe it is Labour that is doing it.

GPs are supposed to vote on the contract changes this week. Without going over old ground again, it must now be so clear to even the most naive of GPs what the game is. The GPC and LMCs appear to believe that acceptance of choice A will appease the government and buy GPs some peace. That is what Chamberlain thought when he waved his undertaking from Hitler. There is no point in appeasement - this is only the start.
