May 12th is Nurses Day (thank's to life in the NHS for pointing this out - it really must be being kept low key, as I had forgotten).
The RCN has some information on their website.
Personally, I think the Nurses should be shouting about it from the roof-tops. Britain invented modern nursing, Florence Nightingale showed how a good nurse should not take any shit from jumped up medical twaterrati, and there is no point trying to provide good medical care without having good nursing care.
The Dr Rant team would like to wish all of our overworked, underpaid brethren in the Nursing Profession a very Happy Nurse's Day!
May you never stop striving to care for your patients better in the spirit of your founding woman, who if she were around today would surely lose no time at all in telling those NuLabour toady shits to go fuck themselves!

Hey what's all the fuss about Florence Nightingale?
Despite her deep cleaning the hospital (Selimiye Barracks in Scutari, Crimea) and reorganising patient care she sent the mortality rates up.
It was only the sanitary comission sent out from Britain 6 months after she arrived that managed to lower the death rate by flushing out the sewers and improving ventilation.

Florence is the frequent subject of criticism that is largely thinly-veiled anti-nurse and misogynist in origin. Sadly, more and more nurses have a negative view of her too.
She was the first nurse and she was strong enough to take on the complete twats in charge of medicine at the time (no change there then) and win. The twaterati were not well pleased and spent much time trying to undermine her.
It was Nightingale herself that demonstrated that the death rate was continuing to climb, and it was Nightingale herself who was instrumental on her return to Britain in showing that the hidden underlying cause - the problems with overcrowding and poor ventilation/sewage disposal.
Sadly, many nurses seem unwilling to defend her because of her 'handmaiden' image - although quite how a kick-ass powerhouse like Nightingale who tore through the misogynism and power of an arrogant and complacent medical twaterati ever got stuck with a 'handmaiden' image is a mystery to me.
Team Rant will hear no criticism of Our Flo!

Not only was Flo a kickass powerhouse, she was a bit of a tease too.
Flo drove politicos like Richard Monckton Milnes and Sidney Herbert near crazy, although it is unclear if either suitor made much headway against her crisply starched undergarments ?
Perhaps we could set a similar honeytrap for Mr Postman - any volunteers ? sadly my hairy legs rule me out straight away.......obviously

Have you consider the confounding variables?
Crowding, nutritional state of the men, etc etc.
Oh, but the good old 'sanitary comission' turned up to save the chaps from the silly woman did they?
