Rachel wins Dr Rant Trollonymous Trollathon!

Sadly, No one will be attending the prize giving

After much giggling, howling, and general gawfawing, Team Rant would like to announce that Rachel's entry in the Trollonymous Trollathon was judged to be both the funniest and the most offensive.

Fabulous work, Rachel.

Hmm.
You know how if you go for a long run on a hot day, you sweat in all sorts of interesting places?
Well imagine you didn't wash for a month or so, while working naked in a fish gutting factory, then went for a long run.
Preferably just after having a really offensive runny shit without realising you had no bogroll, so it's left to drip down your leg.
Now imagine you got back from your run, wiped some of the sweaty sticky stinking effluent from your peritoneum onto a bit of raw chicken in a bowl, covered it with clingfilm, and left it out to sit in the sun for a week or two.
That stuff it's grown on top?
That's No One's mum that is.

If you email us with the address that you would like the prize to go to (and your choice of book if you already have NHS Plc) we will make sure that it wings it way to you in time for Christmas!

Thank you to everyone who took part (even the irresponsible contestant who tried to get us all sued by suggesting that Rita Pal was No-One!) - I'm sure you will all agree that Rachel is an inspiration to us all.

Many thanks rant. It is indeed an honor to be recognised by such a dysfunctional group. I hope that in time I will be able to come and collect my award in person. That would require you to reveal your identity so I won't be holding my breath.

Since I am on double secret ignore and am not in possession of my decoder ring, I understand there can be no response to my heartfelt thanks.

**TROLL WARNING**

The Troll identified as 'ANON' or 'NO-ONE' is believed to be a professional Rent-A-Troll.

WE NOW RECOMMEND THAT ALL READERS SYSTEMATICALLY IGNORE HIM.

The No-One professional troll is being deployed against a range of blogs critical of New Labour NHS privatisation policy. Employing professional trolls to damage a blog's message is increasingly common.

The No-One troll's modus operandi is to mimic a contrarian troll.

We suspect he may try to mutate into a bitter troll and/or a vulgar troll now that he has been identified.

We don't know who The No-One Troll's Employer is, but we think it is just the kind of thing New Labour would do.

There are technical limits to tracking and blocking trolls through blogger, but we are looking at our options.

**This automated anti-troll message will be repeated regularly**

Ooh how exciting! I'd like to thank the Academy and my parents and of course the ever fabulous No One for their inspirational torrents of unfounded selfcontradictory paranoid bullshit.

Of course, some of us have better things to do than fluff around on websites being a troll :)

Just because I am totally in love with the Robin Hood of the medical profession aka Dr Rant, I have enclosed a choice Times article. That should put you all into gibbering mode :)running for your bunny vacs. All the GMC has to do is get the Google UK logs on Dr Rant and you are all in the bunny vac! It is a simple procedure really. Just that none of you think it is. Now that is rather a nifty reality check.

Keep telling you guys - no such thing as anonymity on the internet :). You don't listen :).

Largest internet libel payout over 'malicious' website
Hugh Tomlinson, QC arrives at the High Court, London

A “malicious and relentless” online campaign of libel against a housing group and its chief executive resulted today in the largest public compensation payout in an internet defamation case.

Gentoo Ltd, formerly the Sunderland Housing Group, became the subject of an attack by "a seriously defamatory, abusive and scurrilous anonymous website at dadsplace.co.uk", according to a statement read in court by the organisation's counsel, Hugh Tomlinson QC, before Mr Justice Eady today.

"From behind their cloak of anonymity, Dadsplace used their publications and in particular the website to conduct a malicious, unpleasant and relentless campaign of libel and harassment," Mr Tomlinson told the court.

He added that many of the accusations were directed at the Gentoo chief executive, Peter Walls. They ranged “from corruption to nepotism and the promotion of female employees in exchange for sexual favours”, he said.

Dadsplace had been viewed "millions of times" by the time it was taken down in the summer of 2006. The allegations were made over a two year period.

Those responsible had taken careful steps to conceal their identities, Mr Tomlinson said. It took many months of investigation to identify some of those responsible.

John Finn, the owner of rival housing firm Pallion and a former local council candidate in Sunderland, originally denied responsibility. But in October last year he admitted his involvement, agreeing at the time to pay £125,000 towards Gentoo’s legal costs and a total of £21,000 in compensation.

Today he and Pallion agreed to pay Mr Walls damages of £100,000 to settle his claim for libel and harassment.

Mr Tomlinson said: "The very substantial compensations made by Mr Finn and Pallion show that those responsible for scurrilous defamatory publications on the internet cannot escape liability in the courts."

Caroline Addy, a barrister at One Brick Court, a leading defamation set, told Times Online that the payout appeared to be a “surprisingly large amount”.

“It’s certainly the largest in my recollection," she said. "The publication must have been ongoing and over a sustained period of time.”

Ms Addy said that cases involving internet libel were growing because “people often have no idea of the legal implications of putting things up online. They think – falsely – that they can hide their identities and say things they wouldn’t say if they had to put their name on it.”

The court also heard today that injunctions were granted against John Baines and John Edward Smith, the other defendants in the case, prohibiting them from repeating the defamatory allegations.

Mr Baines, also known as John Seafield, was the main administrator of Dadsplace, and Mr Smith took "an active role" in the website.

Speaking after today's hearing Mr Walls, a former Sunderland city council director of housing, said: "What was particularly frightening was the fact that we didn't know who was doing this or why.

"There is no doubt that the internet can be a fantastic tool for good but we urgently need legal change to enable victims of internet abuse to have a quicker and more effective route to justice."

Ashley Hurst, an associate at Olswang, Gentoo’s solicitors, called for a code of conduct for web publishers.

"It is difficult to see how the government can legislate effectively in this area because technology moves faster than the courts," he said.

"But one option may be to develop a voluntary code of conduct so that at least reputable websites can distinguish themselves from the rogue ones by signing up to the code as a badge of credibility."

Possibly missing the point here but shouldn't it be perineum rather than peritoneum?

im fairly close to exactly what the real "no one" has said and posted, and he has been a bit busy working for a living recently, and not really had time to notice this anti "no one" stuff

im sure he would smile it all off though
