I participated, and these results are all generally in the direction I selected. Apart from uni lecturers who I personally wouldn't trust out of sight.
I don't see how NIKU could possibly be a "paid troll who works for lying fuck Neolithic-Labour". After all, it's NuLabour who are seeking to preserve the failed '40s style health system. The NHS is still the sacred cow of the Labour Party which must be kept alive at all costs. Let's hope the next Government puts it out of its misery.

I should be grateful if you could show me a pole of another country where doctors are more popular, I think that you will find this hard to do.
It may well annoy you that British Doctors are popular with their patients, and maybe it is because the rest of the British public is not as perceptive as you.
Alternatively the British public may realise that British Doctors for all their faults care deeply for their patients. Caring for people is not something that the red in tooth and claw understand easily. It threatens their self imposed isolation and exposes them to the scrutiny of their own unpopularity, the eventual rage appearing as trolling the popular website such as this.

I see the DofH is bringing private sector management into 20 hospitals because standards are so low. BMA says "We don't believe that anyone except our money grubbing members are allowed to make obscene amounts of money out of the NHS. The private sector only care about shareholders (except when they provide private hospitals for our members to prophet from the waiting lists in, those are okay), while on the other-hand, we only care about enriching our members and don't care about patients either."

no one - I'm a patient with a long term illness. I fully empathise with fellow patients who sometimes feel as though the whole medical community is against them. I've been there myself.
There's that feeling, and then there's NIKU, who's on a whole other plane.
How about first you all start to be a bit nicer to each other and a bit less personal.
Second you'd have to be an idiot to go into medicine to get rich, i'm training and am obviously going to have more work and less money than friends who took courses such as economics, enginnering and in one case geography!
(Not that i mind, hopefully i'll enjoy my job more than them though)
Most doctors i know what to do thier job because they actually believe in helping, and doing the best for thier patients
Admittedly medicine has got better carer prospects than say media studies, but then i expect shooting yourself in the head does as well.

have said it before will say it again; the US has a federal patient dumping law that imposes a 10 year prison sentence on ANYONE who turns away a patient because they are unable to pay. Along with this legislation there is medicaid which is a federal insurance product that provides for those who cannot afford insurance.
the majority of uninsured people in the US have made a conscious decision not to pay for it. Their choice. That's allowed there.

(Basically, if you are an emergency and you get taken to a medicare hospital that has not closed it's doors because it is full, then they can't not treat you because you don't have insurance.
Once the emergency is over they can dump you, and then you end up bankrupt as they sue you for the money.
Oh, and you don't go to jail for 10 years. You can be fined and it might affect your medicare contract.

All i'm saying is that my friend was going crazy trying to afford medical insurance while working as a nurse in a hospital with not enough nurses. I firmly believe in free healthcare.
When i'm comparing different carers i'm doing so taking someone with the same aptitude (well the same person). I.e. if i'd gone into economics or enginneering i could earn more. (but wouldn't enjoy it)

My brother is an engineer who started training after practically failing his a-levels - yet he's still doing pretty well.
There's nothing wrong with our A+E's, i just had emergency surgery in one! The only time they're horrible is when everyone is drunk on a friday or saturday night which isn't really anyones fault. (unless you want to ban drug people from entry)
Another american friend said he thought U.S A+E avoided this problem because if you had to pay and you did yourself a minor injury while drunk, you were more likley just to head home that head to a hospital.
Anyway what ever the case if people really can't stand the NHS then i guess there alway private care, or a move back to the U.S on the cards. One less angry patient for NHS staff to deal with.

Politicians are killing the NHS, killing nurses, killing doctors, killing anyone who actually gives a fuck about patients.
My NHs Trust is run by politically minded fuckwits. The head union bloke is a politician and you are totally screwed if you want to out the trust for its patient killing health strategies. Our senior manager is a "member" of that utterly useless Scottish Parliament and is only inetrested in getting Nu-Labour votes from his local area.
The local yokels in the rural areas are being screwed by NHS $%^$£" managers who are using the NHS to launch their bloated fat cat political ambitions at the expense of patients and staff.
The local nutters who are managers decided to axe a whole raft of ICU nurses as their audit (carried out on a wet and windy monday afternnon in an pub) indicated that nurses cost money that could be used for emplying another manager. They then axed acute services and sent them to another hospital which was already overstressed.
The staff went to a public meeting in a local theatre. However, fuckwit managers were waiting with a police bodyguard to remove NHS staff from the public and segregate us from the general public. We got placed in a airless, cramped room with a telescreen with no sound and eight police officers to stop us leaving the public meeting. Political freedom - eat your heart out.
And where did the marvelous medical staff go, one was bought off with a clinical directors post, one got a senior managers post within the health board. And those that joined staff in protesting - got shafted and are unable to get posts anywhere else. The nurses - just as bad. One got a thirty grand handsake for "cutting costs" (i.e removing ten nurses per shift and reducing the numbers of physio's)

My reasoning may well be flawed, but I still think that had I wanted to get rich I would have chosen some other course, hell I think i'd like to start my carer working for free somewhere (and after the NHS put all that money into training me - how rude).
I'd like to think that at least some doctors, probably the ones you'd rather be seen by, didn't go into medicine for the money.

Ok this is my first post on this site. I feel that i agree with the Doctors as to the decline of the NHS having more to do with the current government than the Doctors themselves, although they are not entirely free from blame. I also feel that the current government should, and hopefully will, be removed from power very soon. In fact this country is getting so bad I am contemplating moving. As to comments about the quality of the NHS i feel that comparing the NHS and other health services, for example the American health service, is not fair. This is like comparing the amount and quality of work between a full payed worker and a voluntary worker. Although the voluntary worker will work hard as it is something they believe in i feel that they do not have the added financial motivation. And i believe that despite this many, but sadly not all, of the doctors do the minimum or more than they should. One last thing. I think that although this site may have been originally designed to spread a valid and well reasoned method, with a little bit of profanity thrown in for humor, it has gotten well out of control. I mean try counting how many rude words are displayed on this page alone! Fine i appreciate the humor in the actually post but the over use of profound language is insane! You are changing the results to the poll even as you type! I think that if you clear it up, NOT totally, this could be one of the forerunners for a method of communication between doctors and the public, without the message becoming corrupted. Maybe this could even be made into a forum! Anyway enough of my rant!

Sadly, we have attracted a couple of trolls and we have become distracted from our main purpose (and we have become much more extreme in the comments section as a response).
Also, there has been an interesting shift in approach with the change from Hewitt to Johnson.
Hewitt was an intelligent harpy. She actually tied to understand the health brief and shape the service. This made things much worse, of course, but she was trying.
Johnson is a career politician. He does not give a fuck about the health brief and simply wants to get through it and on to bigger and better things (?PM).
As a result, rather than making policy he is simply engaging in a sustained, and largely covert, campaign to undermine the medical profession.
As a result, we are angry, jaded, and feel powerless.
I think you are right - we need to regain the initiative. However, this is easier said than done. More likely, we simply need to ride out the dying days of this awful government and prepare for the shits to follow.
