Dr Scot Junior Suspension Lifted (but Dame Carol Black is still a shit and Prof Liz Paice is still a cunt)

Dr Rant is delighted to hear that Dr Scot Junior, the Highland surgeon suspended for calling Dame Carol Melena a shit, has had his suspension lifted.

Dr Rant gave an interview to a Sunday Times reporter on the topic yesterday and the story was due to go to press tonight. Highland Health Board knew that the spread of the story to the mainstream media was imminent. The startling co-incidence of the suspension being lifted just as the Times reporter started asking questions is not one that is lost on Dr Rant or the reporter.

We are delighted that Scot is back at work, and we look forward to hearing exactly why Highland 'Hang Em High' Health Board and the Highland Dean Gillian 'Shoot First, Shoot Second, then when you think everyone is dead maybe ask a couple of Questions' Needham thought that a suspension was appropriate in this case. The guidelines for suspension of a doctor from work are that is should be used in extreme cases where protection of patients is required while an investigation is ongoing. Exactly how calling the Shit a Dame [Stop doing that! - Ed.] is a threat to patients is a total fucking mystery to us, but we can't wait to hear the explanation.

Of course, Highland Health Board are said to have a history of using gagging clauses as part of their 'resolution' process (presumably so the victims can't tell everyone what a bunch of cunts Highland Health Board are), so we will probably be waiting a long time.

And don't hold your breath for Prof Paice to be censured by the GMC for abuse of power either.

Fucking dictators.

Oh, and did we mention that we think Dame Carol Black is a complete steaming pile of cack?

That's great news.

I suspect that the postgraduate dean realised she was on a hiding to nothing with this case. Even if she was right...she'd have been wrong. To her credit she's acted pretty quickly to lift the suspension which hopefully now will only count as a "technical local difficulty" in the doctor's career.

Bear in mind that all leaders in any industry have been the rebels at some stage of their career. The revulsion for the medical twaterati shown on this and other blogs, and in the fury demonstrated on DNUK fora may show a developing revolution.

Too many senior doctors have been appointed for their conformity, not their contribution.

It's sad, as all the best doctors are constantly trying to improve the status quo. The sad thing is how many senior doctors are now deadwood, or suckups rather than credible doctors.Indeed even worse these twaterati are scared of real doctors with passion for the job, and a will to care for patients.

Good. Let's get them more scared still...and lets hope Andrew Lansley and team are making notes on who to get rid of as soon as they get in the door of Richmond House.

Well done, Frank.

This is clearly a victory for the bloggers.

Scottish Surgeon, you owe Frank Rant, Rita Pal, the Witch Doctor and Jobbing Doctor a pint: and we didn't even have to unleash Crippen on the three witches.

Result!!!!

OH, and the Ferret as well.

Victory for the bloggers???

WTF???

Are you suggesting that the young man in question had no help or support from anyone other than a couple of bloggers? Or that a couple of bloggers were responsible for his suspension being revoked?

With due respect, I very much doubt it.

As you say it's not the bloggers alone. But the outcry on doctors.net.uk has probably had something to do with it.

Prof Paice and Prof Black are short of friends at the moment.

As bloggers our influence is not direct, but is by our reflection of prevailing actual, but not official, thought patterns within the NHS system.

Just to clarify. I was in contact with the journalist writing the story for the Sunday Times before the suspension was lifted (or certainly, before we knew it had been lifted).

That reporter said that the story would need to be pulled after the news on Friday that Dr Scot Junior's suspension had been lifted.

Lifting the suspension made the story of a suspended doctor no longer news worthy, which NHS Highland would have known at the time.

There is, of course, a larger story about the abuse of power by Liz Paice. However, it is a different story for which there does not appear to be currently enough evidence for the MSM to get involved in.

To further clarify (based on stories on other blogs linking to this piece), Dr Rant did not - of course - give out the identity of Dr Scot Junior to the press.

The interview was simply to provide background and comment on the events surrounding the suspension as they were known to us.

None of the information given out in the interview was not already in the blogosphere.

I hope you know that the "lifting" of the suspension lasted all of 3 days. Dr Scot Junior was resuspended by the monday morning, much to the surprise of his colleagues who were looking forward to having him back on the rota. Coincidence? When is the Sunday Times printed? Paranoid yet?
