Farewell Lord Darzi

Lord Darzi: Back in the clinical saddle yesterday?

So, farewell then Lord Darzi. You were once described as a well tethered goat. No longer. You seem to have gnawed through the ropes binding you to your ministerial desk.

Or maybe you have just seen the light that this government is falling apart and you are deserting the wreckage, like so many previous health ministers are doing. Labour health reforms seem to be going backwards now with you and Britnell leaving. Soon we’ll have a government of no talents at all.

Or maybe you want more time with your robots and other family?

You did a great review of the NHS that had the great insight that, “"At the core of my report was one simple yet radical idea: to put quality - defined as patient experience, clinical effectiveness and patient safety - at the heart of the NHS."

Then you got slammed as Clive Peedell and everyone else asked, “What else has it ever been about?” thereby exposing the idiocy that has being going on as the government hashes up health policy even further with you as the useful idiot providing camouflage for its machinations.

I think your review will come to be seen as the worst kind of old fashioned managerial butchery- like a laparotomy- and with many, many complications.

Dr Rant notes that you are not planning to stay around to sort them out, and wishes you well in your forthcoming 'advisory' role to a private sector company hoping to cherry pick some profitable nuggets out of the mess that you know intimately well (because you made it).

Bravo, nobody tells it the way it is quite like Dr Rant.
Some of your posts are so truthful (and accurate) they almost restore my faith in human nature.

good article;odd that 'lord' darzi 'needs more time to do his clinical work'...yet he has time to do some private consultancy work..like alan milburn did...is this not a clear violation of ethics? i think he should be referred to the gmc...won't be as his ethics allowed him to join that disgraceful cesspit of corruption and toadyism-the 'lords'

darzi is a typical surgeon...may be brilliant at his role..PLEASE stick to the day job though!..he has been a total disaster damaging morale wasting resources behaving like a dictator not responding to local needs...and displayed his profound ignorance of primary care about which he has learnt nothing..GO and let us hear no more of you...slimy arrogant toad..

Hi, I thought you'd enjoy this: I was at the British Library, machine hooked up to their free public wifi, went to your fantastic blog - when instead of the site I got the message below. 20 minutes later I was thrown off the wifi, although that may have had to do with me illegally downloading music from rapidshare, I'll never know.
Keep up the good work - you're obviously being noticed, even if it's by moderator bots.

PS I honestly couldn't go and tell them I had a "genuine research need" to look at your blog, although that would potentially have been a hilarious conversation.

GPs do seem to enjoy using pseudonyms these days..

One in my local practice says he is "Dr Hilary" (the TV doctor) on telephone consultations then tells patients there's nothing wrong, and goodbye.
Of course we know who he is but he is getting away with very unprofessional behaviour.

It is the few dedicated who have to carry the clowns who try all the tricks to send patients to other partners in the practice.

now i read in pulse that after 9 months via a freedom of information request we now learn that darzi had secret meetings with private companies whilst proclaiming a ''level playing field'' between gps and private providers in applications for apms contracts!!!!(these meetings were not minuted!!!!)
actually i now think you should not stick to the day job but continue as a politician--you clearly have the required skills of--duplicity ;self -interest;a total lack of morals and an inability to tell the truth.
you are a total complete and absolute disgrace.
ps please pleae dr rant come back--your country needs you!

Dear Dr. Rant,

My name is Barbara O’ Brien and my blogging at The Mahablog, Crooks and Liars, AlterNet, and elsewhere on the progressive political and health blogophere has earned me the notoriety of being a panelist at the Yearly Kos Convention and a featured guest blogger at the Take Back America Conference in Washington, DC.

I’m contacting you because I found your site in a prominent politics and health reform blog search and want to tell you about my newest blogging platform —the public concern of politics, and health care and its reform. Our shared concerns include health reform, tort reform, public health, safe workplaces, and asbestos contamination.

To increase awareness on these important issues, my goal is to get a resource link on your site or even allow me to provide a guest posting. Please contact me back, I hope to hear from you soon. Drop by our site in the meantime—www.maacenter.org/blog.

Thanks,
