Scotch on its own, by common useage refers to the Whisky, although it is useage which is rare in Scotland. Although in theory one could describe someone as a Scotch person, this is not common useage - hence either 'a Scot' or 'Scottish' are the correct terms. <BR/><BR/>Referring to someone as Scotch is not offensive, just ignorant. <BR/><BR/>FWIW I suspect part of Alex Salmond's plan is to annoy the English enough that they demand their independence (see recent remarks about the house of commons dancing to a Scottish jig).<BR/><BR/>None of this is relevant to the story - Des Browne is a C*** in any nation and any capacity.angry gasmannoreply@blogger.com
